Chris Brookmyre Returns to The Bookmonger, Celebrating The Release of Quite Ugly One Evening
Chris Brookmyre at The Bookmonger Celebrating the return of Jack Parlabane in Quite Ugly One Evening
Some books mark a milestone. Others bring a legend home.
We are thrilled to welcome Chris Brookmyre back to The Bookmonger for an evening celebrating Quite Ugly One Evening, the long-awaited return of fan-favourite journalist Jack Parlabane, thirty years after he first appeared in Quite Ugly One Morning.
A Glasgow institution in Scottish crime fiction, Chris Brookmyre is one of the most celebrated and beloved writers in the country, and we cannot wait to have him back in the shop.
About the Book
Legendary journalist Jack Parlabane returns in his ninth investigation, a devilishly entertaining locked-room mystery, this time set aboard a cruise ship.
Jack thrives on chasing stories in unlikely places, and a fan convention on an Atlantic cruise liner is unlikely enough. But he's not there to stoke controversy, he's there to solve a murder. The problem is, someone onboard has already killed once to keep their secret. And the tricky part? There's a dead body locked in a stateroom with him, covered in his blood.
An Atlantic voyage. A family at war. A secret worth killing over.
About the Author
Chris Brookmyre began his career as a journalist before becoming a full-time novelist with the publication of his debut, Quite Ugly One Morning, in 1996, establishing him as one of Britain's leading crime writers. Over a prolific career, he has won or been nominated for every major crime fiction prize in the UK, including the McIlvanney Prize twice, the CWA Dagger in the Library, the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year, and the Wodehouse Prize for Comic Writing. His most recent novel, The Cracked Mirror, won the McIlvanney Prize in 2024. His novels have sold more than two million copies in the UK alone.
