Modern Masala

Indian roots don’t always mean curry with roti for dinner. Modern Masala is a love letter to vibrant, contemporary cooking inspired by Indian heritage, celebrating flavours without borders.

This joyful collection of 75 vegetarian recipes reimagines Indian flavours for the way we eat now. Moving far beyond a bowl of aloo gobi, Sanjana brings together comforting one-pot heroes like Daal Gnocchi, playful mash-ups such as Lime Pickle Paneer Fajitas, and indulgent bakes including Mango Caramel Millionaire’s Shortbread. Each recipe offers a familiar nod to the tastes of her Indian ancestry, adapted for curious, globally minded cooks.

Written through the lens of a first-generation British Indian who didn’t grow up eating curry every day (though most meals had spice), Modern Masala is a celebration of the adaptability and energy of Indian-inspired food. Expect bold dishes, simple methods and everyday meals elevated with a subtle Desi sensibility.

With its inventive recipes, approachable techniques and thoughtful cultural insight, this book is set to become an essential resource for anyone keen to explore modern vegetarian cooking with Indian roots.
